Kevin Hart’s ‘Let Me Explain’ Pulls Impressive Numbers at the Box Office

Kevin Hart Let Me Explain movie is expected to do big numbers. Personal life and recent DUIs aside, Kevin Hart is surely winning big as he remains to be one of today’s most successful black comedians. Hart is not only enjoying his time in the spotlight, but he’s making the most out of it. Kevin is enjoying the success of his hit show on BET, “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” but he’s also making movies and ensuring his success won’t end quickly like it has for so many other black comedians. In fact, Kevin’s newest movie “Let Me Explain” is already making a splash its first week at the box office, and with the early numbers already in, many seem to think his newest stand up movie could easily become one of the top grossed stand ups by black comedians, a list Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor have been dominating for decades. The Grio reports:

Hart, who has been on a winning streak following his hit film Think Like a Man and popular BET series Real Husbands of Hollywood, already has one very successful stand up film under his belt; 2011′s Laugh at My Pain.

But the performance of Let Me Explain is unprecedented.

According to Deadline.com, the film has already earned $7.4 million in ticket sales during its first two days of release, which nearly eclipsed the entire run of Laugh at My Pain. And Variety reports that Let Me Explain made $29 million by Sunday night.

The movie achieved this feat while opening in 876 theaters. In comparison, Disney’s The Lone Ranger (starring Johnny Depp) opened in 3,904 theaters and yet only grossed $5 million more than Hart’s low-budget comedy.

To date, Eddie Murphy’s seminal 1987 stand-up film Raw remains the most profitable in the genre’s history — earning $50 million. If adjusted for inflation, that total would reach $100 million in 2013 numbers.

Congrats to Kevin. No one on the staff has seen the movie yet (most of us are going tonight), but lots of people have taken to social media to praise it and suggest its pretty funny. If you’ve seen it, be sure to tell us what you thought about it in the comment section below.

Halle Berry Stops Personal Item Auction in Canada

A Canadian auction house was forced to postpone a sale of personal items after receiving a cease and desist letter from Halle Berry. The Hollywood Reporter noted that 400 items, including an antique sofa, a queen-sized bed, a zebra skin rug, a hairbrush and nail clippers, were going to be sold at the auction.

The items actually belonged to Berry's former boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, instead of the "X Men: Days of Future Past" actress. The auction, which was scheduled to take place in Montreal on Sunday, was finally postponed.

"No items were used by her, nor were any items provided by her or any agent of hers for the auction. We apologize to her (Berry), and to the public, for the error. All goods were and are the property of Mr. Gabriel Aubry only," the auctioneer stated on its website. The auction has been rescheduled for July 21.

Berry, who owns a condo in Old Montreal, broke up with Aubry in 2010. The couple has a daughter together. Berry is currently expecting her first child with her fiance Olivier Martinez.

The couple was spotted leaving Angelini Osteria restaurant in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday. The actress was all smiles as she held hands with her French beau. She wore a comfortable-looking asymmetrical dress, a pair of flip-flops and sunglasses. Martinez opted for a brown shirt and a pair of jeans.

“The Baddest Guy Ever Liveth”! Check out Olamide on the Cover of Mystreetz Magazine’s New Issue

Baddo Lee came straight out of his Lee Temple and has colossally grown into one of Nigeria’s biggest Rap artistes. Olamide has been feeding us with hits after hits and in the process, upgraded his brand from budding underground Hip-Hop act to a swanky Rapper who is now a household name.
This is what Sesan Adeniji, the publisher of Mystreetz Magazinehad to say about their new issue:
‘With the way the Nigerian music industry has continued to evolve, sometimes, one needs to ask the question, what if? What if Fela hadn’t let go of his tussle with Orlando Julius for the ownership of highlife jazz to discover Afro-beat? What if Sir Shina Peters had been content with the music genre he tussled for with Segun Adewale and he hadn’t pioneered Afro Juju? What if Prince Nico Mbarga hadn’t sang ‘Sweet Mother’ and Tu Face never recorded ‘African queen’? The answers are not far fetch. Nigerian music wouldn’t have been widely recognized and respected as it is today without the record set by these brave hearts who took the road less travelled and refused to join the bandwagons.
We live in an industry where the copycat syndrome is the order of the day and the few who dare to do something different are hardly encouraged from the onset except when they beat the odds to breakthrough. We at Mystreetz magazine have always stood out to report what is different and Just like we once projected with ‘Olamide’s eye on the Rap throne’ which was the first time he graced the cover of Mystreetz magazine. Musically, his stock has risen ever since, so much that he became the first artiste to grace the magazine’s cover for the second time. To us, he is one of the few Nigerian artistes that followed the road less travelled. Determined to live his dream driven by rapping in his mother’s tongue. He is arguably, the only artiste that has become so successful after ticked off as a replica. So the question now is, What is working for Olamide?
