Kollington Ayinla Is Still Part Of My Life – Queen Salawa Abeni

After 23years of living separately from the father of three of her children, Queen Salawa Abeni has said, God should be the judge of whatever bad Kollington Ayinla has done to her. She made the statement recently at the Annual London African Music Festival.
In her words “Even though Kollington and I have gone our separate ways 23 years ago, I still consider him a big part of my life because I bore him children who bear his name. His name will forever be written in the history of my life. Though we do not have a smooth relationship, and I have been solely responsible for the upbringing of my children up to university level, I still maintain the fact that he is part of me. Let God be the judge of whatever bad Kollington has done me.”
She is gradually bouncing back to the music industry after years of taking a break due to a throat ailment. She also said she is thankful to God because she did not believe she could get a cleaning job, not to talk of becoming a celebrity due to her poor educational background.

“I’m a son of God, not man of God” – King Sunny Ade addresses his relationship with God

Music Legend, King Sunny Ade says he sees himself as a son of God and not a man of God as most people think he is!

In a recent interview with TRIBUNE, he said “You can’t just call yourself a man of God. There must be a very strong covenant between you and God before you can claim that you are a man of God. I don’t see myself like that, but if people call me a man of God, it means I have to be very careful because I have not heard from God. All I know is that I am a son of God, not yet a man of God.

I have always been a spiritual person and I have been surviving as a spiritual person since I was born.”

On his relationship with God, he said “There is a touch of spirituality about my existence that I can’t even explain, even as I speak with you now, I still can’t explain it. The fact is that I don’t even know how I have been surviving till now. I didn’t study music, nobody taught me music. Nobody taught me how to play the guitar. But I know it has been God all along.

Nothing else could have sustained me till now and surely no one has, except God. I think people are still looking at me with the impression they had in those days when I was still looking for fame. Those days, I sang all sorts of songs because I wanted to be famous, especially in Ondo town where they worship Ogun. Every year, we worshipped Ogun in Ondo those days, so I thought that if I sang Ogun songs, people would accrpt me; buy my album. But it does not mean that I am worshipping Ogun or anything. “

My wish was to be Michael Jackson’s wife – Fast Rising Actress Oma Iyasara

Oma Iyasara is a fast rising actress who got into limelight in the award-winning movie, ‘Last Flight to Abuja’.
In this interview she speaks about her career, relationship and other issues. Excerpts

TELL us about the time you spent in the Royal Arts Academy.
My experience in the Royal Arts Academy was awesome. I learnt a whole lot about movie making and acting, and it was a stepping stone to Nollywood.

How did you get to feature in Uche Jombo’s movie False?
I actually got to feature in False through my first movie, which was Damage, featuring Uche Jombo and Kalu Ikeagwu. So, it built a relationship for me with the Uche Jumbo Studio.

What has been your most challenging movie so far?
Desperate House Girls. I had to scream and be angry – which I’m not used to. I also had to act as a village girl (laughs).

How well would you say you have fared in your acting career?

In life we learn everyday. I’m still learning and discovering I can do certain things, especially acting.
I am proud of how far I have come and I hope to go further, God willing.

What’s your relationship with Emem Isong and Uche Jombo?
Emem Isong is a lady I truly admire and I look up to her as a mentor. Uche Jombo is like a sister to me. She is always willing to advise me and boost my morale. I have a good and wonderful relationship with both of them, and I won’t trade it for anything.

What is your level of education?
I studied Mass Communication at the Imo State University and I also have a diploma in Law from the University of Abuja. But I will love to go back to school soon.

Who was the first person you had a crush on as a pretty young girl?
(Laughs) I am still a pretty young girl. Well, Michael Jackson. I really wanted to marry him.

How did you discover your acting talent?
I have always loved the camera actually, and ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) went on strike then. Instead of sitting at home doing nothing, I decided to go to an acting school and that was the beginning. I didn’t really have many issues, because I had people guiding me through. And I want to use
this medium to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of them. God bless you all for me.

The heavily-bearded dude stated this today, Friday, September 26, 2013, while speaking as a guest on AIT's breakfast show, 'Kakaaki'.

Kelvin was talking about the music industry and its prospects when he made the declaration.

The former label boss of renowned Nigerian singer, Asa, said Nigerian singers are now being paid well for shows held outside the country, a development he applauds.

He however charged collecting societies in the country to work more on getting royalties from countries outside Nigeria on behalf of the artistes. He said Nigerian songs are played abroad on their radio and television stations, but doubts if artistes get royalties for the use of their creative materials from those countries.

News: Justin Timberlake dreamed of being a "comedic sitcom actor"

He says he's lucky to be doing music and acting

Justin Timberlake's first dream was to be a comedic actor.
Although the multi-talented star is flying high in both the music and movie industries, promoting new flick Runner Runner and his second cut of The 20/20 Experience, he grew up dreaming of appearing in TV sitcoms.
Speaking to The Metro he revealed: "I am glad I decided to become a musician first because it is like nothing else. Growing up I thought for sure that I was going to be some sort of comedic sitcom actor.
"My treat before bedtime was to stay up at the news and watch Cheers, Three's Company or Sanford and Son with my parents. Being that type of actor is what I wanted to do."

"But you can never fathom how a career is going to pan out and certainly, where I am now, I really don't want to squander this sort of luck."
The 32-year-old stars in Runner Runner alongside Ben Affleck and explained why he has actively chosen to land supporting roles in his movie career so far.
"I have enjoyed playing the antagonist, probably because I get to play the protagonist in my music so much," he said.
Justin also spoke about his latest musical offering. The first part of the record, The 20/20 Experience, was released back in March and topped charts all over the world. This second instalment has a darker feel, and Justin wants fans to listen to the album in full without interruption.
"I want people to put it on and not touch it, and leave it to play for an hour," the star said. "The sequence is important; in a loose, linear fashion you can tell a bit of a story of a story in your album."

Rihanna wins Topshop ban

Pop star Rihanna has won a permanent ban against a U.K. clothing chain she sued for selling T-shirts emblazoned with her image.

The singer took Topshop bosses to court over their 'Rihanna Tank', which featured a snap taken by a freelance photographer without her permission on the set of her We Found Love music video in 2011.

In the latest ruling on Wednesday (25Sep13), the Umbrella hitmaker was granted an injunction preventing Topshop from using her image on products in the future.

Topshop chiefs were also ordered to pay Rihanna's estimated $1.4 million (£919,000) legal fees, and told they must pay $300,000 (£200,000) of the costs within 14 days - but the judge gave brand bosses permission to appeal against the costs order.

In July (13), Rihanna won her battle against Topshop after Mr Justice Birss ruled in her favour, insisting the fashion firm had 'passed off' the garments as endorsed T-shirts.

Tupac's Mom Sues for $1.1 Million Rap Money Is Mine

You haven't met a protective mother until you've met Tupac's mom ... she's now suing over unpaid royalties stemming from the late rapper's posthumous album ... to the tune of $1.1 million.

Afeni Shakur -- the co-administrator of Tupac's estate -- filed the lawsuit against a company called Entertainment One, claiming it breached a contract to pay Tupac's estate royalties on "Beginnings: The Lost Tapes," which was released in June 2007.

According to the suit, E1 purchased the rights to Tupac's music (previously owned by Death Row Records) in July. FYI, Death Row went bankrupt in 2006.
Afeni claims E1 now owes Tupac's estate $1.1 million ... and it better pony up fast. She also wants E1 to hand over the master recordings of all Tupac's unreleased music.

Hell hath no fury like a mother scorned. Calls to E1 weren't returned.

People mistake my silence for arrogance-Rukky Sanda tells Punch

Nollywood actress/producer Rukky Sanda in an interview with Punch made it clear that she really does not listen to gossips and rumours and as such she is no longer bothered by criticisms as they tend to give her a push to acheive more.
“I really don’t know where all that comes from and I hardly ever see it. But I think it is because I’m reserved. I have to be in my comfort zone to talk about it. It is bad, but it has helped me become the woman I am today. I can’t really complain because people will always express their opinion about you and judge you. Life is designed that way. So I’m cool.Sometimes, people do not know what I’m doing because I am silent about it. I don’t like to make noise about stuff like this. So when I do anything, they start wondering what I am up to. I guess I’ll never know. I’m really anti-social and that is why people mistake my silence for arrogance,” She said.

Reasons Yvonne Nelson, Sandra Ankobia Parted Ways Revealed!

Before now, Yvonne Nelson was very close to the host of Fashion 101, Sandra Ankobia, the two ladies were always hanging out, traveling and partying together until their relationship hit the rocks sometime ago,

So many things went down the drain as the two publicly deleted each other from Instagram.

The reasons they parted ways, according to rumours, has a link with the girl-to-girl nasty affair. The sexy Ghana actress, Yvonne, was said to have 'cheated' on Sandra, this infuriated her and deleted her pictures from her Instagram page.

Though, Yvonne, we gathered, maintain coolness about their break-up, their love-turned-sour started after both failed to show up at each other’s big day in April this year.

Yvonne Nelson did not show up at Sandra’s call to the bar, while the latter was also missing at the premiere of Yvonne’s movie ‘House of Gold’ in which Sandra ironically starred.

“We used to be tight, very close, there wasn’t any argument or fight or quarreling to warrant such an outcome. “I just don’t hear from her,” Yvonne maintained.

When being questioned by a reporter about their sour relationship, Yvonne simply put, "Sandra is a nice person, but she (Yvonne) is focused right now…and therefore had to “move away”. And she was ask why they parted away, she said ‘birds of the same feathers flock together’ and therefore had to distance herself."

Emotional Abuse In A Relationship

When The Wrong One Loves You

Welcome Readers! This article is about emotional abuse. It is very often hard to detect emotional abuse. I personally feel emotional abuse is almost more damaging then physical abuse. Almost. With that being said lets go back a few steps before we rush into it. A lot of times when we fall in love we put up with a whole lot of crap from the other person in good faith they might see the error of their ways. It doesn't always start out abusive. I mean no one really can be certain but from most case reports I read in my behavior book and from friends I KNOW personally it usually doesn't start out that way. The beginning is usually the only good part of the story. So lets start at the beginning. Your heart is racing, your smiling a lot, you feel so blessed to have someone who understands you, and you feel like this is where you want to be forever. You start dating, the person plays the wonderful charming partner. Now lets pause for a second right here. Emotional abuse can and does happen to men more than it does to women (yes hard to believe but that is what the reports say and they are conclusive). It just is NOT as server for men. The reports say that men in emotionally abusive relationships usually cope with the behavior a lot better than women and are 10 times more likely to move on after and marry (well naturally men have what I like to call tougher skin then women so to speak). It's not that they are not effected by this kind of behavior in women and its not that they don't get wounded from it. It's just they are more likely to break the cycle of dating women like that, than women are (this was even conclusive when those men didn't receive therapy directly after or during the relationship). So lets go back to you just started dating. You feel the sparks and your in this stage where your untouchable. You fall head over heels in love with this person. Then you have your very first argument (that goes really bad anyways). Now here we begin the story of emotional abuse.

When It Just Isn't Right

So the argument starts over something in retrospect not so big. Lets just use the example that you promised to meet your partner for dinner but your boss asked you to stay late with the promise of giving you extra hours at work for the rest of the week (which you desperately needed and have been crossing your fingers for weeks). So you accept forgetting all about the dinner date with your partner in your excitement. So when you get home tired you see your partner called you at least 5 times. You instantly remember about your plans with them and feel awful that you had to turn your cell off to save the battery. So then you call them and they say they really want to talk about in person. So your partner comes over. Instantly the drilling questions begin as to what happened. You explain and say your sorry. The person says "You know what you really don't seem to care enough about me. If work is more important than me than just let me know right now and we can end this." You try to explain that it wasn't like that but the person seems to get even more angry. With clenched teeth they say "How can you be stupid enough to take on more hours without even thinking about us? If your really that stupid than don't ask me to spend more time with you because I'm not going to listen to you talking on and on like a retard. When I tried to spend time with you." Lets pause right here. Now sometimes the mind will make excuses for this kind of behavior. Like for example the person does have a right to be mad but might be overreacting. That's okay because it was technically my fault anyways. WRONG!!! This is the nature of emotional abusive. Notice how the abuser used guilt to control the situation. Then topped it off with words like stupid, retard, selfish, just to attack your character and lower your self esteem. They know exactly what they are doing. It is not an accident or slip of words. They are purposely trying to use your emotions to control your behavior to center around what they want. Now lets go back to the story. The person says they will not take the extra hours and will tell their boss that they have a family issue that prevents them from taking the hours. The abuser anger now seems to subside a bit. They say "You know what do what you want. If you want to spend time with me, call me after you get out of work and i will pick you up." The person agrees. The abuser goes back to being charming. Makes a graceful exit (probably want to have sex with you to be more in detail). This is the process. Once the abuser see's that your not going to stand up to their bullying but in fact reward there behavior by giving them exactly what THEY wanted they will repeat the process. Arguments come more and more. Until you decided to quit your job because it is causing you to much "problems" in your relationship. Then you decide it will be cheaper if you moved in together (which seemed like a glorious thing to do at the time because since you left your job things are going well). Lets pause again. This control method has worked on you to the fullest extent. The abuser is much like a school yard bully. They will keep pushing you until they have everything they want from you. Then they will show you a bit of kindness. They use words like "you make so mad because you just so stupid. I've told you that this makes me upset." Its much like treating you like a child. The attacks just keep coming lowering all your confidence.

Sexual Abuse

Emotional abuse and sexual abuse go hand and hand. Once they have access to you 24/7 they will more and more ask for sex from you. When you say your tired or don't feel well they will emotionally attack you until you just do it to shut them up. It becomes more than twice a day. You completely almost dread going into the bedroom. Or the bathroom. Or where ever it happens the most. Even if your asleep they wake you up and you feel obligated to give them their request for sex because if you say no. They will "pout" or "fly off the handle" or "leave for hours without calling." These are all apart of the abuse process. Some people will say in their defense they never hit them so it can't be abuse. Just because they haven't hit you doesn't mean its not abuse. If they are forcing you to respond on command to them because your afraid of their behavior then its abuse. Simple. A lot people don't realize the sexual abuse. They think its okay they want it so much because they are with them and they could go somewhere else. Think to yourself for a second. If you had an ATM in your house would you still walk or drive to the bank? Noway. Having you available to have sex with them whenever they want is like having an ATM in their house so obviously they wouldn't go looking else where. Why go through all the trouble? This is abuse. I want you to be aware just because they are not holding a knife to your throat doesn't mean they are not sexually abusing you. Which is RAPE. If your being emotionally forced to have sex with them everyday regardless if you want it or not then it is sexual abuse.

In closing

Their is a lot more elements to emotional abuse. I am just giving an overview here. If your in a relationship that relates to this article in anyway I suggest you leave immediately. I don't fault people for being in relationships like these. A lot (almost all) don't realize they are being a victim of this kind of abuse. So in retrospect i don't blame the person for not knowing. It can happen to anyone really. Although once you realize and educate yourself on this you will be able to identify this kind of abuse and know when to walk away before it gets really bad. Relationships are not suppose to be one sided. Or lower your confidence. When your in a relationship its suppose to be about compremise. It's about respect. It's about trust. The person your with should always bring out your BEST qualities (most of the time). Now lets not get the wrong idea here. Relationships are not perfect. Their is not always a fairy tale with a happy ending. Sometimes things just go straight to the crap shoot. Although, abusive relationships leave scars on you for a VERY long time. You CAN'T deal with this alone. This will only make you feel more alone and isolated. You need to leave and get help. Your not a nut and shouldn't feel bad for doing so. You need to rebuild your mind correctly so you can come out better than before and not worse. That is the point of therapy. Just remember it is YOUR choice to be a victim forever or take control and be above it. I honestly feel sorry for the people who will say its not so bad. That they honestly love them. Trust me, if you honestly think that is the BEST LOVE has to offer than you are fooling yourself. Thanks for reading and i hope you found this article helpful and informative. The Eedris Abdulkareem Interview: ‘Remedies will be back’

I arrived at TROY Hotel, Ogba, Lagos at 1pm on a Thursday afternoon for my interview with one of Nigeria’s most controversial rappers. Sitting with him at the hotel’s bar, staring at him, thinking he must have smoked almost a pack of cigarettes, Eedris Adulkareem looked more than relaxed as he sipped on a glass of brandy.

The Hip-hop artiste, who now loves to refer to himself as a social crusader and activist sat down for a chat with NET, talking about the state of the music industry in Nigeria and interestingly how he plans to resurrect his former band.

What have you been up to lately?

I have been busy as always doing what I love to do best. Not with the force of people pushing me to do it, but with the agreement that this is what I’d be doing forever and that’s why I’m still doing it

At the time you guys started this thing did you think it would be this big?

Yeah, God told me about it. He said to me, my son, stand up and go to Lagos. Go to your brother Dr. Fresh. Give him the needed support and make the hip-hop thing come to pass. I listened to God and came to Lagos. I saw Dr. Fresh, met Tony, met Eddy, and it came to pass, the birth of hip-hop in Nigeria. So, with that happening, God made me an elder-state’s person in the business, a revolutionary and one of the people that made the industry happen. I’ve been very grateful to Allah because he’s the reason why I’m still here.

Looking at the state of hip-hop in Nigeria, do you think it’s still towing that dream you had for it or has it gone off-track?

No, what you see today is boys coming out of the streets, and following a trend because that trend is bringing in money. And the reason why they have been able to do that is because we created that platform, but that’s not what we created the platform for. We created the platform to use music as a tool to add value to the society and to create employment like we have done. Most of these boys, their parents used to insult us back then saying,’look at these OPPs that don’t have future’, but today, the same parents are the ones sending their children to go to the studio to record, shooting videos for them and paying big money for promos because they found out music has now become very lucrative. ‘Food don done, everybody carry spoon, na your mama cook the food, abi na your papa cook the food?’

We made it possible for the multinationals to respect Nigerian artistes. They didn’t treat Nigerian artistes with respect, but we made it happen. Take music out of the radio for one day and see what will happen. What you see today, is just boys singing about women and other irrelevant subjects. These boys that are coming in, doing music now, most of these dudes would have been carrying guns. We are grateful that we have been able to create employment for the so-called rappers on behalf of the Federal Government.

You have managed to remain consistent through the years. How have you been able to do that?

One, because I have a strong faith with God. If you grew up from the North and you are a Muslim, you won’t be scared of anybody but God. I believe that if you have God in everything you do, God’s favour and grace would always be with you. Number two, my songs are not just songs to make you dance, or tell you a story about a girl you have never met before. They talk about ills in the society, education, politics, science, streets, unemployment, electricity for the people and a lot of things. People can relate to that, and that’s why I’m still consistent, and I’m not changing at all. My shoe size has been there, none of them can wear it.  I’m a social crusader. I talk about what is happening in the society and that’s why I’ll always be relevant.

You have often referred to yourself as a social crusader and even went head-to-head with a one-time president of this country.  Were there times you were afraid for your life?

I grew up in Kano, and we were taught in the Quran that Allah is the greatest. You’re not supposed to be scared of anybody but Allah. So, I already made up my mind what I wanted to do from the beginning. Because the truth is bitter, many people would never like it. We all can’t be the same, so I chose to speak on behalf of the people and to be the voice of the voiceless, and I’m happy.

I remember when I sang the song ‘Jagajaga’, about 23 million Nigerian youths voted me to raise the Olympic torch. Raising the Olympic torch is bigger than winning the Grammy awards. The Olympic is talking about peace and love all over the world, and it’s enough for me. My responsibility is never to disappoint the people and to always speak for the people. Obasanjo said my papa and my mama ‘Jagajaga’. I was so happy that my message got to the president. The president couldn’t hide it. He came on National TV and promoted me. Secondly, he’s my mugu because he made me a super star, there is no song of mine that I won’t put Obasanjo’s name. So, Obasanjo is part of my mugu and I go dey take am chop. Thirdly, I’m doing this to speak for the people, and that’s why people will always relate to me.

Do you see changes in the society so far?

Yes. Changes from state governors who have like minds, and are radical like me. An example is the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole. There was no good coming out of Edo State for eight years when Lucky Igbenedion was there. Oshiomole has made it happen, and there are a few governors out there that are doing the same thing. So there are changes, and the revolution is on.

What are your thoughts on the state of the music industry?

You see, when the top is messed up, you don’t expect the bottom to be any better. What the politicians have taught Nigerians is corruption. Our music industry is not regulated. What are the responsibilities of PMAN? Musicians are not united because some of them feel that they have arrived, and they fail to understand that they wouldn’t have arrived if not for people like us who paved the way for them. Until they get into trouble that’s when they would be looking for friends. Then they would now think to themselves and say, ‘oh, wait a minute, Is this how the game is? So it’s all about politics? Damn! I should have played it well’.

NCC is one of the biggest problems we have in this industry.  I’m talking about giving space for multiple collecting society. You can’t monopolise the industry.  You can’t just bring somebody that is your friend, and schooled in America and basically studied Accounting or Economics to come and head the Nigerian Copyrights Commission. He doesn’t know anything about music, copyrights and royalties. He shouldn’t be there. Secondly, the so called COSON don’t even know what they are doing. The Attorney General has given license to COSON to be the only collecting society, meanwhile COSON does not have the international right as a collecting society. It’s only MCSN that has the right. There has to be room for multiple collecting societies in the country.

The musicians themselves should also be educated about this issue. It’s not just the shows that you should depend on to earn revenue.  Is it when your song is no longer on the radio that you want to start knowing what copyright is all about? Thank God the matter is currently in House of Assembly and the House has heard from both sides. We are waiting for the House to make the final decision. In America and in the UK, they have multiple collecting society, so, why can’t we have the same?

How was growing up for you?

I grew up with a mum. I never had a dad. I lost my dad when I was two. She is my hero, she is my everything. She saw me through life. I looked at myself and thought, if a mother could do all these to bring me to where I am today and I didn’t go astray without a father, then God has a reason in my life. I attended Army Day nursery, primary and secondary schools. I then moved to the Nigeria Military School (NMS). I was in the military school for about two years, and I saw myself becoming somebody in the future that would hurt a lot of people with guns. So, I said to myself, this is not the kind of life I want to live. I left the military school, and I became a table-tennis player. I represented Nigeria at the All African Games in 1985. Yinka Majekodunmi, Funke Oshunaike, Biola Odunmosun, Bose Kaffour, Atanda Musa, Hakeem Hassan, Yomi Bankole, these are my people. At the age of 14, I was collecting my salary as a Sport Council employee. But still, as a table tennis champion that I was then, I still felt that this is not were God wants me to be, and I was so happy the day God revealed to me that  it’s the microphone he wants me to carry. The microphone can speak what millions of people won’t be able to speak for themselves.

Your former partners, Eddy Montana and Tony Tetuila, how often do you guys see or hangout?

Eddy is fine, Tony is fine, we see often. Eddy is in Delta State. Working on a lot of other stuff and still doing music too. Together as Remedies, we have been recording an album ‘The Promised Nigeria’ that we will drop soon. Remedies will be back.

Many believe you have lost your relevance, how do these comments make you feel?

I don’t react; I just set it straight the way it is because I’ve gone through a lot. If the president could actually fight me and I’m still here and still standing, then whose opinion will now bring me down? I’ve been there, done that and you’re not going to get anything out of trying to bring me down. Most importantly, when it has to do with women that you try and blackmail me with, it’s not possible, because my marriage is already 14 years, and they said it was going to end in three months.

There’s a rumour that you have kidney problems, how true is that?

That’s totally untrue. If I have kidney problems will I be doing this (drinking and smoking)?

Your wife is hardly in the media, is it like a home rule for her to avoid the spotlight?

I thank God that I’m enjoying a blissful marriage. There’s simply no need for her to be out there in the media. I have managed to keep my family private. Remember many said we were not going to last, but here we are. We have two wonderful sons and Allah has been faithful to us.

Kanye, Diddy & Oprah turn up

We definitely didn’t see this one coming! This past weekend Kanye West, his girlfriend Kim Kardashian and media mogul, Diddy all hung out and partied with Oprah! The rather interesting combination was the result of a party hosted by Interscope Records founder and CEO, Jimmy Lovine.

Judging by the smiles on their faces, everyone certainly had a good time!
