Our Family Relies On Royalty For Survival—Oliver De Coque’s Son, Safin

The Nigerian music industry was thrown into mourning mood in 2008 following the death of a veteran musician, Oliver De Coque. The heavily bearded guitarist reportedly died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital. His death shocked many, who were never expecting such.

Oliver De Coque won the hearts of many music lovers with his scintillating performances and songs in his lifetime. His high-life music was loved by the older generations that cut across the Igbo and Yoruba tribes.

The Anambra State-born music icon played a major role by playing music for Biafran soldiers during the civil war of 1967 to 1970. It will be recalled that the corpse of the mother of the musician was still in the mortuary, when he died in 2008. She had died few days before his death and Oliver De Coque was planning to bury the old woman in the house he was building then before he died suddenly.

In an interview with Nigeriafilms.com, a son of the late musician, Safin De Coque disclosed that the family has been enjoying royalties from the albums of his late dad.

“I felt the pain when he first died, but I have learnt to move on and I am glad that he left some things on ground to sustain the family,” Safin said when asked how he felt when his father died.

When further asked to explain what he meant by ‘some things’ his father left behind, the bearded rapper said, “the royalties from the sales of his albums, and what we get from his properties and many other things he left behind.” He also said, “I also appreciate his good friends, who still call the family to know how we are fairing.”

The young De Coque said that he will soon remix one of the songs of his late dad and he hopes this would bring back the memories of his father. He informed us that his own style of rap music has a fusion of highlife, which appeals to lovers of both genres of music.

Patience Ozokwor Has Something To Say About Ghanaian Filmmakers

According to Patience who was recently in Kumasi to shoot ‘Mama Africa’, a Ghana-Nigeria collaboration, they are doing well producing movies in the indigenous language and they deserve to be encouraged.

Speaking during a press conference, the actress said, "I am glad things are changing in Africa, where Ghana is taking steps to use and trade with its local language through movies. Bollywood is second when it comes to movie making in the world. They use their local language to shoot, which tells you that it’s not bad for an industry to use local language to shoot movies.

"When one makes mistakes in English, the whole country laughs at the person, but we forget it’s not our language, but rather it’s the white man who forced us to learn it; so if Africa needs to grow, one of the things we can grow with is our language."

Ex-BBA Star, Elikem, Denies Impregnating Theresa Onnen: 'Pokello And I Are Still Happily Together'

Germany-based Ghanaian fashion designer, Theresa Onnen, recently claimed she is carrying Elikem’s unborn child. But ex-Big Brother Africa housemate, Elikem Kumordzie, has profusely denied claims made by Theresa.

Theresa Onnen said that she is two weeks pregnant for Elikem. "We fell in love the very first day I met him at the launch of my clothing line of which he was part of the models, we exchanged numbers and we started a relationship from there. It is barely a month since we got to know each other but anyone who has seen us together would think we have been dating for more than two years, simply because we click," Theresa claimed.

Ex-BBA housemates Elikem and Pokello Nare, who have been dating from the onset of the reality show in 2013, have laughed off the claims. They say their love is waxing stronger regardless of break up rumours.

Elikem denied being with Theresa Onnen: "Good morning my people. They have started again. Let’s burn these Motherfuckers. I am not with Theresa Onnen, Pokello and I are still happily together. This shit is insane. What has Polikem done to these people? I love my wife. Period," he said.

Pokello Nare added: "Elikem breaks up with Pokello; impregnates German-based designer hahahhaha. Polikem is a mother fucken Brand. When we break up we will inform u, not the other way round! Good day."

'I'm Not Bothered By My Crashed Marriage — Ex-Wife Of Nollywood Producer Jeta Amata Reveals

It seems like Mbong Amata, one time wife of Nollywood director, Jeta Amata, is moving on greatly without Jeta after their marriage hit the rock some time ago. She doesn’t care and not bothered about what goes on next, she said she is not bothered with her crashed marriage to the renowned film mogul.

Mbong said this during an interview with newsmen while she was in the country recently for the shoot cum premiere of Emem Isong’s latest movie, Apaye: A Mother’s Love.

When asked if she was ever worried by negative stories that trailed her marriage crash, she said:

“Never. I tried my best. I might not look strong but I’m very, very strong. If you are in show business or any business that put you out there, you have to build a solid, great wall of China around you. My wall is very tall. I only hear about it, but I’m not moved one bit. So, I have a huge wall around my person.”

On why she is still bearing Amata as her last name despite her separation from Jeta, Mbong says: “Yes, does it change anything? It doesn’t.”

“Jeta is a great man, fantastic dad but life has to move on,” she added.

Commenting on whether she would still like to star in her ex-husband’s film, She answered: “Why not? He was my friend before he became my husband. We had a great relationship. We are connected for life. We have a child together. If I see him, as often as I could, it doesn’t change anything.”

On whether she is ready to give marriage another chance, this is what Mbong, who says she is not in any serious relationship right now, has to say:

“I don’t really know, but I don’t want to say never. It is the future, I prefer to live in the now and see how that goes. But for now, it is about me doing more films, charity and raising my child. So, that is my priority.”

THE LIVES OF "MISS INDEPENDENT" LADIES

There have been different questions and opinion polls on why some ladies prefer to remain single. People have different opinions and reasons why they will love to be single than to be in the ‘bondage’ that marriage is being painted as today. Find below some of the reasons:

1. You get to design your living space exactly as you want it, and appreciate the serenity and freedom that comes with no one encroaching on your little bubble.

2. You get to make a list of all the things you want to do and move through them one by one without ever having to stop and ask another person if they are okay with doing it.

3. You learn what it means to define yourself as an individual, and not even tangentially as part of a unit.

4. For many things — from sleeping through the night, to feeling good about yourself, to trying new activities — you learn to rely on yourself, and to be your own support system when you need it.

5. You can go home to your family, or take a trip somewhere new, for a period of time if you need to, and not have to worry about anyone else’s life being affected by your distance. You don’t have to maintain any relationship while you are away.

6. You don’t have to take anyone’s opinion into consideration when planning a vacation.

7. Every day you live holds the potential of starting an entirely new love story — whether with a partner or a city or a book — and you never know when or where yours is going to start.

8. You can dedicate nearly all your social time to developing and enriching the friendships which sometimes fall by the wayside when you are consumed with a new relationship.

9. You can figure out the things which are important to accomplish by yourself, and work on achieving higher and higher goals on your own.

10. You can throw yourself fully into your work — even to the point that you’re not seeing your friends as frequently as you’d like to — and don’t have to worry about it coming at the cost of your relationship.

11. You don’t have to feel guilty about being the most important thing in your life.

12. In the absence of someone else’s opinion or touch or reinforcement, you can decide exactly how you feel about your own body and how you would like to improve or change it, if you’re not happy.

13. You can engage in long moments of self-care, and not have to explain to anyone why you’re upset or why you need to be by yourself for a while.

14. No one is going to take your solitude personally.

15. You get to spend extended periods of time wandering around, reading, people-watching, drinking tea, and listening to the kinds of things you think about when no one is telling you what they want to do next.

16. You can decide the things that you love about being single — the parts of you that you absolutely don’t want to disappear when you get into a relationship — and learn to set boundaries around them. You can refuse relationships that encroach on your personal time or ability to make your own choices.

17. Because of all the time you are able to spend working on your platonic or familial relationships, you realize how essential and affirming all of these different connections can be, and how much you need to care for them when you’re back into a relationship again.

18. You can take as much time as you need to lick your wounds from previous hurts or disappointments.

19. All of your energy can go towards taking care of and improving yourself, from working hard on a project to learning a new language to redoing your entire apartment, and you don’t have to reserve a designated amount of time to taking care of someone else.

20. The fear that we all live with — the fear of being alone, and that somehow denoting failure — begin to ebb as you realize that being alone can be just wonderful.

Alleged Rapist, Obesere Threatens Victim, Olanike Olaiya -'I have spent a lot of money treating myself'

There were indications, yesterday, that the case involving popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, also known as Obesere, arrested for allegedly raping a 29-year-old business woman, Miss Olanike Olaiya, in his Okota residence may have been  transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

Sources told Vanguard, yesterday, that the embattled musician preferred the SCID to the  Isolo Police division because the DPO had insisted on the matter going to court. Normally, it is  the Divisional Police Officer at Isolo Division, Aminu Ibrahim, that should have ordered the transfer of the case to SCID for further investigations. But Obesere was alleged to have used his contacts in the police to have the case transferred to SCID.

A police source also disclosed that Obesere found it difficult to pressurize the DPO at Isolo into striking out the matter or persuade the victim to accept a settlement. The source, who craved anonymity, also said Obesere contacted some top citizens to wade into the matter by persuading the DPO to soft-pedal on the  matter but they backed down when they discovered that the police have incriminating evidence against the musician.

Victim relocates to Sagamu for treatment

Meantime, the victim, Olaiya, told Vanguard yesterday that she had relocated to her home town, Sagamu in Ogun State, where she is currently receiving treatment for the rape incident. Olaiya, who spoke with Vanguard on the telephone, said: “As I speak with you, I am in Sagamu, my home town, where I have been  receiving traditional treatment since the incident occurred.

I bled for more than two weeks —Victim

“I bled for more than two weeks after Alhaji Obesere raped me and inserted his ring into my private part. The incident occurred on February 12, 2013 and I have spent a lot of money treating myself.

“The DPO, Isolo Police division, took pity on me and refused to give in to Obesere’s pressure to  strike out the case and God will bless him for that. “But last week I was informed that the case had been transferred to the SCID and my Investigating Police Office, IPO, at Isolo asked me to come to the station on Tuesday for the transfer.

“But when I got to the SCID, I discovered the IPO, who took over the case, one Mr. Jacob, I don’t know his rank, became hostile to me. “You need to see how this man treated me. He started by asking me to write a new statement and when I tried to explain that I had written a statement at Isolo division, he rebuffed my explanation and insisted I wrote a new one.

They threatened to kill me

“Afterwards, they started threatening me. The IPO, Alhaji Obesere, and some of his brothers, who were present there, asked me to stop the journalists from publishing my story and if I don’t, I will be a dead person. “I was so frightened when they said this and each time my phone rang someone would pick it up to know who was calling. “Later, they discovered  I wasn’t going to break, then they started begging me and promised to take care of me. Alhaji Obesere even said he was going to take me to the best hospital for treatment.

“At the end, I rose to leave and they offered to drop me in my place. The IPO also insisted that I should follow them. Instead of taking me to my area, they took me to Obesere’s house and the woman who introduced me to him was also there. “While I was with them I alerted the police at Isolo and told them where I was. “But yesterday, they called after they saw the publication and started threatening again to kill me. “I am highly terrified, that was why I travelled back  to my home to get some treatment.”

Also Nollywood actors and actresses who have gone into producing their own movies have done well for themselves. But I feel like our stories are too predictable, no disrespect. There’s no suspense. I feel like you can just watch a Nollywood movie that you have never seen or heard of and tell the way it’s going to end before it does. But trust me; if any director partners with me to do a movie, it will be awesome.”

Pastor Chris Says A Child Can Be Aborted If….!Read!

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, is on the news again after such a long while. Well, this time for a question the preacher answered during Christ embassy’s Communion Service. The answer he gave her turned into another head news o. He was asked ‘if a baby produced from r*pe can be aborted?’ #PastorChris answered the question with the story of King David and Bethsheba, where the child from that illicit union died inspite of King David’s prayer and fasting, because of his sin.
Pastor Chris said that no child should be brought into this world by force at all, and if a lady has been molested, it is actually left for her to decide if she wants to keep the baby or not. He went on to say that, If you have never been r*ped in your life or someone close to you have not experienced it before, you may not agree with this statement.
He said it was never mentioned anywhere in the bible, that one should keep a child from a r*pe experience. Most people have of course disagreed with this opinion, and many see it as a doctrine from the pit of hell, to deceieve souls in this last days. What do you honestly think? lets be sincere.

Why people lie about sex

Abuja - People will lie about their sexual behaviour to match cultural expectations about how men or women should act – even though they wouldn’t distort other gender-related behaviours, new research suggests.

The study found that men were willing to admit that they sometimes engaged in behaviours seen by college students as more appropriate for women, such as writing poetry. The same was true for women, who didn’t hide the fact that they told obscene jokes, or sometimes participated in other “male-type” deeds.

But when it came to sex, men wanted to be seen as “real men:” the kind who had many partners and a lot of sexual experience. Women, on the other hand, wanted to be seen as having less sexual experience than they actually had, to match what is expected of women.

Matching stereotypes

“There is something unique about sexuality that led people to care more about matching the stereotypes for their gender,” said Terri Fisher, author of the study and professor of psychology atThe Ohio State University’s Mansfield campus.

“Sexuality seemed to be the one area where people felt some concern if they didn’t meet the stereotypes of a typical man or a typical woman.”

Fisher discovered how people would honestly respond to questions about sexuality and other gender-role behaviours by asking some study participants questions when they thought they were hooked up to a lie detector machine.

The study appears in a recent issue of the journal Sex Roles.

Participants were 293 college students between the ages of 18 and 25.

The students completed a questionnaire that asked how often they engaged in 124 different behaviours (from never to a few times a day). People in a previous study had identified all the behaviours to be typical of either males (such as wearing dirty clothes, telling obscene jokes) or females (such as writing poetry, lying about your weight). Other behaviours were identified as more negative for males (singing in the shower) or more negative for females (poking fun at others).

But some people filled out the questionnaire while they were attached to what they were told was a working polygraph machine or lie detector. (It was actually not working.)

The others were connected to the apparatus before the study began, supposedly to measure anxiety, but the machine was removed before they completed the questionnaire.

In general, the results showed that both men and women tended to act as would be expected for their gender. Men reported more typical-male behaviours and women reported more typical-female behaviours, regardless of whether they were attached to the lie detector or not.

But for non-sexual behaviours, the participants didn’t seem to feel any added pressure to respond in stereotypical ways for their gender.

In other words, women who were hooked up to the lie detector and those who weren’t were equally likely to admit to bench pressing weights – a stereotypical male activity.

“Men and women didn’t feel compelled to report what they did in ways that matched the stereotypes for their gender for the non-sexual behaviours,” Fisher said.

The one exception was sexual behaviour, where, for example, men reported more sexual partners when they weren’t hooked up to the lie detector than whey they were. Women reported fewer partners when they were not hooked up to the lie detector than when they were. A similar pattern was found for reports of ever having experienced sexual intercourse.

Men and women different

“Men and women had different answers about their sexual behaviour when they thought they had to be truthful,” Fisher said.

This result confirms what Fisher found in an earlier study, back in 2003 – with one important difference.

Back in 2003, women went from having fewer sexual partners than men (when not hooked up to a lie detector) to being essentially even to men (when hooked up to the lie detector.)

In this new study, women actually reported more sexual partners than men when they were both hooked up to a lie detector and thought they had to be truthful.

“Society has changed, even in the past 10 years, and a variety of researchers have found that differences between men and women in some areas of sexual behaviour have essentially disappeared,” she said.

Fisher said the results of the study may actually be stronger than what was found here. Although half the participants were not hooked up to the lie detector while completing the questionnaire, they had been hooked up before they started.

“Some of the participants may have been made uncomfortable by being attached to the lie detector at first, and that may have led them to be more forthcoming and truthful than they otherwise would have been,” she said.

Why My Wife Does Not Stay With Me In Nigeria—Chidi Mokeme

In April 2012, popular actor, Chidi Mokeme said goodbye to bachelorhood, but since he got married to his US-based Nigerian wife, Dr. Jean Olumba, he has practically been living like a bachelor.

This is because his wife has remained in the United States of America after marriage and Chidi has stayed glued to Lagos, where he has a business running.

In a recent interview with Yes magazine, the star actor and show anchorman disclosed the reason behind his decision to run his family that way.
According to him, “when I met my wife, this was our default setting. Let me put it like that. Our default setting was that I live in Nigeria and my wife lives in America and then we started a relationship and decided to take the relationship further and decided we were gonna be man and wife.

“So, having taken that decision and having crossed that level, the next thing is to find a way to ease into a location. Everybody knows that you don’t just pack your bag and move in one day. There are things that need to be sorted, relocation needs to be sorted. So, we are taking our time with it.

“But then again, by virtue of my job, I have a pretty much very flexible timing. I own my time, I decide when to work, when not to work. So, really, I can be with my wife anytime, every time I so desire and it makes it easy. If I work 9-5, then we will always have to wait for when someone was on leave the whole year round, if I want, just to be with my wife.”

Chidi and his wife are yet to get any child from their marriage

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leonardo DiCaprio lose out as ‘Gravity’ rules at Oscars 2014

Despite ‘12 Years of a Slave‘ winning three awards including the highly placed ‘Best Picture‘ at the Academy Awards aka the Oscars this year, lead actor Chiwetel Ejiofor failed to grab the ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role‘ award.

The category which also fielded another favourite Leonardo DiCaprio (who had an outstanding lead role in the movie ‘The Wolf of Wall Street) was won by US actor Matthew McConaughey for his role in the biographical drama film Dallas Buyers Club.

The biggest winner of the night however was British-American 3D science-fiction thriller ‘Gravity‘. The movie which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney won seven awards on the night including ‘Best Directing‘ by Alfonso Cuarón.

Another big winner of the night was ‘12 yeas of a Slave‘ actress Lupita Nyong’o. The Kenyan star who was tipped to win the Oscar, ousted favourites Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence to clinch the award for ’Best Actress In A Supporting Role‘.
