Upcoming Artiste Must Be Careful Of Women — Kollington Ayinla

Alhaji Kollington Ayinla is not a new name in the Nigerian music industry. in fact, he is regarded as a veteran in the Fuji genre of music.

He ruled the industry with his hit tracks in the late 80s and early 90s and was seen as the main rival of late Barrister Ayinde Marshal.

He recently told Vanguard that he has no regret being a musician, but feels sorry for himself for not being able to further his education to the university level.

“I have no regret being a musician but I regret that I didn’t have university education. My children are all educated and some have even ventured into music; but into hip-hop. I may be privileged in another lifetime,” he told Vanguard.

He warned that up and coming artistes to be careful of women in their career. “Many young artistes should understand that being focused and dedicated are the only key to success. They should also be careful with women.”

There is no point in marriage, Don Jazzy finally reveals

Sequel to E-News’ story on why it seems strange that former partners, Don Jazzy and D’Banj, are not yet married or single parents, despite all their colleagues already in one or both categories, Jazzy has come out to speak definitively about marriage for the first time.

And unlike all these years when he beats about the bush regarding marriage, he hit the nail on the head this time around when he was asked specific questions about his marriage plans while in Mauritius to perform at the Multichoice Africa Content Showcase.

On when he’ll get married: “I have absolutely no idea.”
On if he already has children: “I don’t know if I have a child somewhere. Someone might come to say I have a 9-year-old boy and we do a test and it is mine.”

And then letting his guard down, he made the disclosure that bests describes his mindset on marriage. “If I have a child before wedding, then I won’t get married anymore because there is no point.”

Why You Should Consider Dating A Yoruba Guy Ahead Of Other Tribes

Well, this article would probably touch a few nerves but I’d like to give a caveat here, I’m not a tribalist! Needless to say, the truth must be said sometimes even if it doesn’t sound pleasing to the ears. If you intend to get through this article to the end, please come along with your sense of humour and if not, you may want to consider stopping here.
The bitter truth is that if you’re not dating a Yoruba guy, you’re definitely not dating yet and if you’re the prayerful type, you seriously need to consider changing your prayer points.
And yes, I’ve said it and you’d probably agree with me when you’re done with this.
Let’s be clear on one thing here, I’m not saying this because I’m a yoruba man, (maybe just a little) but I’ve got to defend myself and my fellow yoruba brothers who have constantly been put in a bad light on different social media fora.
I am a Yoruba man from Ekiti state and the various yoruba men I know are exceptions from the typical stereotypes people have of yoruba men. I am proud of the tribe I come from and everyone would agree to the intelligent, progressive and fun loving nature of Yoruba people. If you’re looking for more reasons to date a Yoruba guy, come along with me.
Family Values
You’d hardly meet a Yoruba guy that doesn’t have high standards when it comes to family. One thing you’re assured of when you date a Yoruba guy (and if you’re lucky enough to marry one) is that you would come first always in his life. What makes this even more sweet is the fact that he would also place as much premium on your family members as he does on his, can life be anymore sweeter?
Respectful
Obviously, no tribe does it better when it comes to respect than your typical Yoruba dude. You’re assured of his love and respect anywhere, anytime.
Highly Fertile
Yoruba dudes have been proven to be very fertile as research has shown that Yorubas have the highest twin births in the world. So, if you love twins so much and you’re thinking of getting pregnant from a guy’s first burst, you sure know what to do.
Generous
If you mix with the right crowd of Yoruba guys, you will find out that we are generous to a fault. A typical Yoruba guy would go out of his way to spoil you silly with no care in the world of the cost implications. Be sure of one thing, he’d carry on with this if you end up saying ‘I do’ to him.
Romantic To A Fault
One of the reasons why girls may find it difficult to say no to a Yoruba man is the fact that you’d hardly find a Yoruba man that doesn’t know how to make his woman feel on top of the world. Yoruba guys know how to give you that good massage when you’re back from a hard day’s work at the office. He would treat you to romantic candle lit dinners and take you on trips to exotic locations you can only dream of. See why he ranks ahead of guys from other tribes?
Sugar-coated Mouth
Another thing you’re bound to love us for is our love for flattery. Yoruba dudes would sweet talk you and make you feel on top of the world which of course is something every woman wants. If you want a man that would make you feel like you’re ‘walking over the moon’, you sure know where to get it from.
To top it all, Yoruba guys are some of the most caring, attentive, patient, understanding and humble guys you will ever meet. Guys from other tribes should however not take this as an insult but take a cue from what makes the girls follow them.

And don’t worry if you’re dating guys from other tribes, I’d surely consider writing on what makes those tribes thick too! But in the meantime, if you’ve got a Yoruba guy; you’re one of the luckiest girls in the world and if you don’t have one, consider the saying ‘the taste of the pudding is in the eating’. Get yourself one today!

I don't believe in Sunday church - Jesse Jags

Music act and M.I’s younger brother, Jesse Jagz has said he does not believe in going to church. Explaining further on what he means, the singer said he believes a man has to build his relationship with God and not necessary go to church before he builds one. Jagz said despite growing up in the household of God (a church) he has not been to one in the past 8 years (and that’s the time he stated becoming popular). Hear him;

“I think every human is spiritual. Prayer is communication with God and there is no definite way of communicating with God. My dad was a pastor so we grew up in church. However, I have not gone to church in eight years. I believe education does not only exist within the four walls of a school the same way God does not only exist in a religious institution. He exists on his own. Growing up in church has made me realise the most important thing is to have a relationship with God. Human beings take religion too seriously.”

9 Easy Ways To Have A Marriage That Rocks

When we were married, we were told it is our job to sort through the advice and choose what is best for us. Our families took that to heart and still often says things like “I know we are not supposed to give you advice, but …” We have to remind them that we like advice! We embrace advice! We just have to decide what works best for our little family, and that goes for everyone.

Here’s the best advice we have heard, read and applied in our five years together that I know have helped make the time sweetly glide.
1. Men need three things

Before we got married, a good friend of the family gave me HER favorite advice and it stuck. From Dr. Laura’s book The Care and Feeding of Husbands, she told me men need three things: food, physical intimacy and a girlfriend. In other words, their needs are not usually as complicated (some are, but that’s another post). I made sure to remember the first two often, but the “girlfriend” part is important. While you can and will be “the mom” of the house, no man wants to be married to his mom, so don’t be one to him. This thought has stopped me multiple times from turning into that naggy mom that I can be to my 3-year-old all day, and causes me to see him as my boyfriend, my partner, who needs attention from me as his friend, and no one else.

2. Pray together every day

When we got home from our honeymoon and we were settling in for the night, we climbed into bed and my sweet husband went straight to his knees. He asked if I would pray with him. That’s the man I married. Lord first, us second, everything else comes after. We rarely sleep without praying together, and that alone has been such a strength for both of us through times that have been difficult.

3. A love note board

The first year we were married, we lived at my husband’s grandpa’s house. He needed a house sitter and we needed a place to stay. It was cheap, full of their things and we didn’t care one bit. Love notes were all over the house – hiding in cupboards, on the bathroom mirrors – there was a lot of love there and it was obvious. I was getting to know his family through the love they literally left behind. I found a little magnet white board at target and brought it home and wrote a love note on it for him to find, and the next morning, he had changed it to put his own love note. We still use the same little white board to help build each other up. Sometimes he will put a scripture, sometimes it’s a “thank you for …” and sometimes it’s a “good luck drinking all that water!”

4. Men who do housework get more lovin’.

It’s true. Women, especially those who are in full custody of your children most of the hours of the day, are tired, disheveled and down on themselves about something. I generally like myself, but I am always wishing I had more time. More time to spend with my kids, more time to spend with kids AND clean my house – there is always something. When my husband helps out, it makes me crazy in love with him.

5. The 15-second kiss

This one we just started recently and it might even be my favorite. We read this sweet article on a marriage blog and I loved the idea of reconnecting daily. There are days when we come home, and when we finally flop on the couch after the kids go down we realize we haven’t even said “hi” yet! After I told him about the 15-second kiss, he grabbed me and kissed me for a good 15 seconds. It was sweet, not intended for anything other than that, but it does cause a reconnect. The whirlwind of the day comes to a halt and the phones get set aside, the TV stays off longer and we remember what’s important in this crazy life. Try it. So easy to do and brings us back home every time.

6. Give each other “me time.”

Everyone, regardless of what it looks like, needs down time. In my husband’s case, I know he needs time every night to do nothing but sit and watch a show. It’s his favorite part of the day, the power-down. It’s what he needs to de-stress and to relax. Not all men are created equal of course, some men need to get out of the house, some need the other guys, but they need their “time,” whatever that is for them.

7. Speak kind words

We were friends with a couple that whenever he turned his back, she was saying awful things about him. It was super awkward for us and made us wonder how that worked for them. He was constantly saying how amazing she was: gorgeous, talented and such a hard worker. She was always telling us what he can’t do, what he doesn’t do for her – it was heartbreaking. I love hearing from my husband’s co-workers what they have “heard about me.” It’s proof he speaks well of me and reminds me to do the same.

8. Brag don’t rag
Without fail, every time we have a girls’ night and the girls and I are up laughing about who knows what it always comes back to “men always …” or “mine does that too!” We laugh a bit about the silly things they say or do, but in reality, mine doesn’t. My husband has never once said the words, “Gosh, I wish you could actually clean the house!” and he’s never once said, “So what did you do all day?” He respects my role here at home and my efforts to bring in extra bacon. And he knows it’s hard. He knows that it is nearly impossible to do it all and chooses to come home and help rather than say anything negative. Smart choice, by the way. Whenever he begins a thought with “Can I just say something …?” I am always bracing myself, sure it will be the time he tells me to get my act together but it is ALWAYS to tell me how great of a mom he thinks I am. When he treats me like a 10, I feel like one. And it makes me try harder at all those things.

9. Planned dates

Now, more than ever, we are learning this is vital. A planned outing, actually without kids, and some time not just to talk about kids, is necessary. Necessary because remember #1? He needs a girlfriend. He doesn’t have a girlfriend if you’re not dating! So get a sitter if you have to, call and ask him out, but go on a real, “I have a plan and I know where I am going to take you tonight” date. We often just take the kids and deal with it and we still have fun, but we are setting a goal of at least two “real” dates a month to have “just us” time, and it helps so much!

What works for you? Any more secret tips/advice you love?

3 Scientific Reasons Hairy

Start growing out that beard.

Picture a guy with long, dark hair. If long hair isn’t your thing, what about a hairy chest or facial hair?

But whether or not you like hairy guys, it turns out that a lot of women prefer them, especially men with facial hair.

But why do hairy men attract more women?

1. They have higher levels of testosterone. When men have higher levels of testosterone, they’re more likely to have a higher s*x drive, live longer, are more confident and honest, and have more energy and optimism.

2. They’re intelligent. Dr. Aikarakudy Alias, a psychiatrist who’s been working on the relationship between body hair and intelligence says that hairy chests are more likely to be found amongst doctors, as well as the highly educated, in the general population.

3. They’re healthier. Hairy men are better able to detect parasites on their body. In a study by researcher Michael Siva-Jothy they found that hungry bugs placed on shaved arms were more likely to feed, compared with those on an unshaved arm, as the hair slows down the bug and alerts the victim. Females may perceive hair as a marker for parasite-free health.

Hairy guys can keep you warm at night, won’t judge you if you decide to grow your hair out, and are super masculine. Our primate ancestors certainly liked their men hairy. Maybe they were on to something.

Music market dynamic in Nigeria –Chics

A music producer, song writer and artiste, is presently working on a new genre of music which he calls electronic high life music. The graduate of Accounting talks about his passion for the arts in an interview
You are a graduate of Accounting, would there be a specific reason behind opting for music as a career?

The music industry for me is very big, though it all started because of the love and passion I have for it. I considered it as a bit of the corporate world but with the knowledge I was able to acquire in school, I discovered I could channel it into the music industry to apply the principles I have learnt into showbiz. This is what our Lagos talents are doing we need to go beyond our love for the talent to applying economics and some accounting to break in.

When did you go into music?

Music started for me way back just like everyone of us would say but when I was in primary school I was the youngest member of a band. I mimed a lot back in secondary school in different groups then it developed from passion to a more focused direction. I had a lot of groups in the university and I have produced some of them also I have some industry friends that I have been working with in the background like Styl Plus who from way back I used to write and produce for. My official first single in 2009 was a song StylPlus featured me in ‘Jekasere Lo’ but they had a problem with the marketer which really affected the album and my coming out.

So far, how well is that application working for you?

Nigeria is a very dynamic market, so many things are not predictable. It’s been good but it boils down to a good promo plan to have endorsements and I am still trying to be out there.

How many singles do you have now?

I dropped a single this year on the 26th of April, my birthday, I did one with Styl Plus, I write and produce for Tunde one of the members of the group as well and we dropped an RnB song ‘Omoge’ February last year. I also did a French song last November ‘Sele mama’ with a Cameroonian artiste Didibebe who I write and produce for as well and ‘Don come’.

You talked about having worked with other industry friends at the background?

The list is endless; X Project, Waje, OJB, Numero, Mecoyo, Mr Yaks, to mention a few. I have a project called cargo republic and we have recorded so many projects.

Being a musician, song writer, producer which is more challenging for you?

Combination of the whole of them because I need to keep up with the demands of the job. The problem of people accepting my ability to do numerous things has been challenging for me.

How would young rate entertainment generally in Nigeria?

With respect to how far we have gone in promoting peace, women empowerment and the educative, humanitarian part and entertainment part, we still have a lot of things to do so I would rate it seven stars over ten.

Three stars short means we have challenges, what are those challenges Abuja wise and generally?

The individuals who are in the industry and the market are the major challenges we are facing. Artistes in Abuja for example do not support each other, we don’t have people who are passionate and apart from the whole security issues, people in Abuja are very conservative though it doesn’t mean big shows don’t happen but artistes in Abuja are yet to benefit from these platforms because they have not been able to run promos like the Lagos people. We have a low level of sponsorship in Abuja, once you are not from a rich home it becomes difficult.
Unfortunately, Lagos which happens to be the hub of entertainment, piracy is the greatest challenge. The marketers are the pirates, you can imagine we do not have a choice to give them our CDs for peanuts but by the end of the day they would help you move your songs everywhere. I was happy when the Vice President came out to assure artistes that challenge would be dealt with in this government so there is hope and at the same time fear.

How can we get things right especially in Abuja?

The orientation in Abuja needs to change, we need to put our hearts into getting the songs out, go extra miles to get investors. We need to start a campaign to get people in Abuja channel some of their investments to artistes in Abuja, we need to unite to balance the equation. No matter how wack they want to make us feel we are, we should be given a chance to showcase what we have rather than always bring in only Lagos artistes to perform here in Abuja.

Do Abuja promoters not have a role to play in this?

We don’t really have promoters in Abuja. A few of them are trying to come up but they still need to learn so many things. A promoter is just one of the variables, most importantly we need investors.

How then can Abuja artistes get investors believe in what they have to offer?

Over the years we have been waiting for investors. It’s annoying to drive round Abuja and not see even one Abuja artiste endorsing any product. We need to meet the investors and talk to them to give us the respect we deserve. Lagos is exaggerated, the traffic situation alone want to make anybody go out from Monday to Monday so they prefer to wait till weekends but here in Abuja, Monday to Monday people are partying everywhere at one garden or the other to chill out and have fun.

How would you rate content in Nigerian music?

For now, I won’t say it’s bad even though all we hear is dance music. I am a writer I understand why people are writing the way they do. For example, there is fuel scarcity, there is always one problem or the other and the kind of songs we need to be listening to are not songs that should bring us down trying to remind us how bad things are but we need songs that would make us forget our troubles even though we are not exactly happy. People who market these music they all accept the songs we write but so many people do not know this part.

We have artistes who do not see the relevance of taking a step further academic wise?

If we have record labels that are willing to do what they are supposed to do to promote the songs and thinking of the economy of getting the songs out, the artiste wouldn’t have a lot of problem if he is educated enough but as an artiste, you need to acquire some form of knowledge. It mustn’t be that four year in the university, there are so many courses online. For example, I am undergoing an online programme and by the time I am done I would be a certified sound engineer. I was able to that as a result of a good friend who told me about it. It all boils down to all the individual bodies to organize workshops for their members because not everybody had the opportunity to go to school.

How deep was your involvement as the national PRO PMAN?
The problem with PMAN is priority. The guys who are in charge are so caught up with their own agenda and it’s wrong. No one has a problem if you are trying to chase a particular dream or philosophy but when you do it consider the general good of everybody. See little things like Abuja carnival, people who are in charge or people who are supposed to go for it they don’t go for it and now you see foreigners who come from Lagos and this is our carnival, even artistes in Abuja struggle to perform and even when they do they pay them peanuts. The name PMAN has been so bastardized they need to change the name, it is associated with failure. The cloud of the Abuja Governor who is working really hard cannot cover the darkness of PMAN.
