8 signs of imminent marriage break-up

Infidelity is an enormous hurdle for a marriage to overcome, but just ending the affair is not enough. For a marriage to fully get past one spouse’s adultery, the unfaithful half of the couple cannot maintain a “friendship” with the former lover.

While healing an ailing relationship is usually what we all want, sometimes it’s wise to know when it’s time to let go. Every marriage is different, but there are some universal truths. For example, if one or both partners refuse to put in the effort to save the marriage, it’ll never get fixed. Another factor is time: “The clock starts ticking on the end of a marriage as soon as one spouse puts the couple’s problems out in the open,” says Bryce Kaye, PhD, author of The Marriage First Aid Kit. “The more time that passes after that without any effort made, the lower the odds are that you’ll stay together.”

Here are signs your marriage may be beyond repair.

1 . You’ve “uncoupled.”

Couples whose marriages are over, or nearly over, have usually uncoupled, or disconnected from each other. If you’re no longer spending any time together, if one or both of you is spending all your time at work, with friends, online and if feels like a relief not to be with each other, it’s a sign that you’ve already disengaged from the marriage.

2 . One spouse refuses to try.

There are a lot of damaging, seemingly insurmountable problems that some marriages encounter and rebound from, such as infidelity, the loss of a close family member and a long sexual drought. If one spouse repeatedly brings up an issue, asks for help and makes it clear that the marriage will not last unless they both commit to solving it, and the other spouse refuses to go along, the marriage is in trouble. One partner can’t do all the trying on his or her own.

3 . There’s a lack of respect in the relationship.

One of the most important aspects of a healthy marriage is mutual respect. When that’s gone, when one partner consistently feels dismissed, rejected and condescended to and the other partner doesn’t see it or refuses to talk through it, you’re in a bad place. Marriages that reach this place are toxic- you’re no longer civil, and all discourse is either attacking or defending.”

4 . You’re no longer a team.

It may sound hokey, but it’s true. In healthily humming-along marriages, both partners work as a team on everything from parenting to running the household to supporting each other in career and personal ambitions. If you’ve both started moving in completely separate orbits, or if you’re not working together on day-to-day issues, it’s a sign of serious trouble.

5 . An unfaithful spouse keeps an ex-lover as a friend.

Infidelity is an enormous hurdle for a marriage to overcome, but just ending the affair is not enough. For a marriage to fully get past one spouse’s adultery, the unfaithful half of the couple cannot maintain a “friendship” with the former lover. No matter what he or she says about the innocence of such a relationship, nothing good can come out of it.

6. No compromising in terms of wants and needs.

A major part of marriage involves trying to fulfill your partner’s needs while also making sure your own needs are met. It’s a lifelong dance, a give and take, and it requires constant communication. But if your partner continually refuses to listen to what you need (time, affection, sex/physical contact, help with children or chores), or refuses to share his own needs, you’re not in a good place.

7 . One spouse is a serial cheater.

Some men-and stereotypically this is men-are just not cut out for marriage; they are unable to remain monogamous, even if they seemed to have wanted to get married. What’s worse, they manage to put the blame for their philandering and untrustworthiness on you, usually for being too jealous or controlling. After the kind of affair a couple can recover from, there are regrets, apologies, and a promise to put an end to it and seek counseling. Not so with the serial cheater; that’s a problem you can’t fix, and likely spells the end of your marriage.

8 . Lack of communicate with each other.

No problem in a marriage can be solved without open, honest communication. If you’ve reached a point where all you ever talk about is mundane things, like who needs to buy milk, you’re in trouble. “Lack of personal, intimate exchange in a marriage is a very bad sign, especially if you are talking to others.

MBGN’s Anna VS Miss Bayelsa’s Harriet

The latest from the beauty pageant organised by the Silverbord Group led by Ben Bruce might not have been heard. The newly crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Anna Ebiere Banner is a daughter of the soil. The Pageant organisers are from Bayelsa, the event that gave automatic employment to Banner as a Special Adviser to the governor was also held in Bayelsa the oil rich State.

For the records, another beauty pageant Miss Bayelsa 2013 was held before that of the MBGN. The event presents Edide Harriet, a model, actress and entrepreneur as winner. The beautiful lady popularly referred as Her Royal Majesty, Queen Edide and the MBGN’s Queen Banner are said to be having clash of supremacy over who rules in the state as the authentic queen.

While Edide is claiming to be the true queen of the soil, Queen Banner’s aide, we learnt, said it’s not true that their queen is the real queen and special adviser for that matter.

From the look of things, it’s not likely that the two 'royalty’ clash will be doused soon, as the two queens reside in the state. Though, the twobeautiful leggy queens of beauty are said to relate cordially, however, there are aides, as we gathered, are not helping matter as they are said to be nurturing grudges against each other over who controls Bayelsa State

Let's hope the appropriate authorities step into this issue soonest.

Queen Harriet was born on May 14th 1992, she hails from Odi in Kolokuma/Opokuma, Bayelsa State. Her hobbies include: cooking, watching movies, traveling, shopping, reading and sleeping. She is from a family of 8, 6 girls, 2 boys, she is the 5th child. She attended Igbeita Primary School odi as well as her secondary school before enrolling for her university degree in Bayelsa.

The MBGN 2013 winner, Anna Ebiere banner, had been Miss Abuja, Miss Kaduna, Miss Imo, Miss Bayelsa & Miss Adamawa. Anna will represent Nigeria at the Miss World beauty pageant to be held September 28 in Indonisia

Sex with the ex is common for young adults

New research announced this week has analyzed the tumultuous love lives of late teens and young 20-somethings, finding breakups, reconciliations, and sex with exes a common ingredient.

The study relied on data from nearly 800 respondents who were 17 to 24 years old from more than 60 different schools.

"This study shows that there is a lot of fluidity in emerging adults' romantic relationships," says postdoctoral fellow Sarah Halpern-Meekin. "They are fairly likely to go through periods of being undefined or in flux. We are still learning what this may mean for young people's well-being and future romantic experiences."

Prior studies have shown that condom use is high at the beginning of relationships but tends to drop over time, reports LiveScience. While sex with an ex may be casual, exes may be less likely to use a condom than they would with a less familiar partner, LiveScience adds.

Brandy performs to near-empty stadium in Johannesburg

Brandy was supposed to be the surprise grand finale for the Mandela Sports And Culture Day, which took place last weekend, but the surprise turned out to be a flop.

Instead of performing to a full house, she found herself performing to a near-empty stadium after concert-goers left ahead of her spot, according to the Daily Mail.

The singer walked off stage after just two songs at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

The stadium holds up to 90 000 people and had been packed throughout the day in celebration of the life of former president Nelson Mandela, but with the packed schedule almost finished, it emptied out before Brandy made her surprise entrance.

While Brandy is popular in the country, her surprise performance was not revealed to fans – who left thinking the day was over.

According to the Guardian newspaper there were no more than 40 people present.

Although tens of thousands of people filled the arena for the sports and culture day, the audience trickled out during the music segment.

After performances by David Jenkins, Elvis Blue, Salif Keita and D'Banj, there was almost no one left for Brandy, said The Guardian.

“Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on,” tweeted South African musician, Kabomo.

“People didn't know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience... She sulked after two songs and walked off.”

Other Twitter users couldn't believe their eyes.

One user, Crazy Girl Tutu, tweeted: “I gave up the min I saw the empty stadium. Brandy performing for the chairs!”

And another user, Dawn Ngwenya, wrote in surprise: “Well Brandy is going to perform for herself and Mbaks [sports minister Fikile Mbalula] only. Stadium now empty.”

Brandy’s performance was also cut out of the televised broadcast of the event. The SABC ended their coverage just before she performed, said Bella Naija.

Brandy's publicist could not be reached for comment.

Ben Affleck succeeds Christian Bale as Batman in 'Man of Steel'

US actor Ben Affleck will replace Christian Bale in the next Batman film, Warner Bros. Pictures said.

Affleck will appear in a Batman-Superman mega flick slated for release in 2015 that follows on the heels of this summer’s Superman hit Man of Steel.

Bale, who played the title role in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, had left the doors wide open for a new successor.

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill and then some,” said Warner Bros. president Greg Silverman in a statement.

The film, which is not yet titled, will be directed by Zack Snyder, who was behind this summer’s Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill of Britain.

Cavill will appear alongside Affleck in the 2015 film.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said.

Man of Steel has earned some $650 million worldwide and $290 million in North America alone.

Affleck is no stranger to superheros, having played Matt Murdock in the 2003 flop Daredevil.

More notably, Affleck arrived at the pinnacle of Hollywood accomplishment in 2013 when his movie “Argo” won the Oscar for best film last February.

Wizkid, A ‘Spoil Brat’ Heading The Way Of Majek Fashek?

To say Wizkid is a kid might be an understatement, but looking at his age, you begin to wonder why some so called celebs don’t learn from the mistakes of those before them, who had all the fame and fortunes in their hands but messed up with it.

At 23, Wizkid is not too young to father a child, which he has reportedly and allegedly done. To say he’s suffering from a half baked-education might not be an excuse because Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and others didn’t finish their educations but are world players today.

If I am not mistaken, Segun Obe didn’t finish from school but he’s doing well for himself. 2Face, who is the king of new generation artistes, didn’t finish from school, he is not only responsible but humble.

Pride they say, comes before fall. For an artiste to call a fan ‘broke’ is uncalled for. One of the reasons I personally don’t regard celebs is because like I always say, they are not better than a cleaner but only had a camera advantage on others.
Fans put food in their tables and cater for them. I hope Wizkid has not forgot how he used to clean and run errands for some artistes at OJB Jezreel’s studio in Surulere. How Banky W helped him to become what he is today, how this same fans spent their hard-earned money to buy his CDs, pay for VIP tickets just to hear him sing for less than 30mins when they can comfortably do that by buying his N50 CD at Alaba International Market. Lagos.

If such fan who has paid N1million for a table to just hear him sing his ‘jargons’ is now being called broke and poor, then this is likely to be the beginning of the end of Wizkid.

Maybe he should remember that no one reigns forever. Many years ago, Majek Fashek used to be the star, but today, where is he? This is not a sort of mockery of the veteran singer but our new stars should learn from mistakes of others to shape their lives. I hope tomorrow won’t come and someone brings sentiment and sympathy to get Nigerians to help Wizkid, God forbid. But the fact is, whatever you sow, you shall reap.

Nobody ever knew OJB Jezreel will cry out to Nigerians for help because he made money doing what he loved doing best some years ago. If he had called a fan back then ‘broke’, I wonder if anyone would help him today.

Wizkid, you don’t need to take my advice, but remember that ‘pride comes before fall.’
