'Chris Brown investigated for assault'

ts3ent
The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed Chris Brown is being investigated on suspicion of assault following his brawl with Frank Ocean.

Police in Los Angeles are investigating Chris Brown for ''assault''.

The 'Turn Up The Music' hitmaker is said to have got into a brawl with Frank Ocean last night (27.01.13) over a parking spot at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles and police say they were told Chris threw the first punch.

A statement from the Los Angeles Police Department stated: ''West Hollywood Station deputies are investigating allegations that Chris Brown assaulted an unnamed victim. Deputies responded to a call of six males fighting at the 7200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood.

''Upon their arrival, deputies talked to witnesses who stated that Chris Brown and the victim were involved in an altercation over a parking space. The altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim.

''After a brief fight, the parties were separated. Chris Brown and his entourage left the location prior to the arrival of deputies. The investigation is on-going and investigators will contact Chris Brown at a later time.''

Sources say that Frank told Chris, who is still on probation for assaulting his on/off girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, ''This is my studio, this is my parking spot,'' which prompted Chris to offer a handshake.

However, one of Frank's associates is then said to have attacked him, which led to one of Chris' friends hitting him in retaliation and the two singers then began fighting.

Frank took to Twitter shortly after to say he was ''jumped'' by Chris and claims his hand injury may affect his live performance at the Grammy Awards next month.

The 'Pyramids' singer wrote: ''Got jumped by chris and a couple guys. lol. i only wish everest was there.

''Cut my finger now I can't play w two hands at the grammys. (sic)''

Is helping smokers a waste of time?

FACED with the high cost of caring for smokers and over-eaters, experts say society must grapple with a blunt question: Instead of trying to penalize them and change

their ways, why not just let these health sinners die?

Annual health care costs are roughly 96 billion for smokers and 147 billion for the obese, the government says. These costs accompany sometimes heroic attempts to

prolong lives, including surgery, chemotherapy and other measures.

But despite these rescue attempts, smokers tend to die 10 years earlier on average, and the obese die five to 12 years prematurely, according to various researchers'

estimates.

Critics also contend that tobacco- and calorie-control measures place a disproportionately heavy burden on poor people. That's because they:

- Smoke more than the rich, and have higher obesity rates.
- Have less money so sales taxes hit them harder. One study last year found poor, nicotine-dependent smokers in Nigeria
- Are less likely to have a car to shop elsewhere convenience store stops stocking.

Critics call these approaches unfair, and believe they have only a marginal effect.

"Ultimately these things are weak tea," said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a physician and fellow at the right-of-centre think tank, the American Enterprise Institute.

Dr. Gottlieb's view is debatable. There are plenty of public health researchers that can show smoking control measures have brought down smoking rates and who will

argue that smoking are not regressive so long as money is earmarked for programs that help poor people quit smoking.

And debate they will. There always seems to be a fight whenever this kind of public health legislation comes up. And it's a fight that can go in all sorts of

directions. For example, some studies even suggest that because smokers and obese people die sooner, they may actually cost society less than healthy people who live

much longer and develop chronic conditions like Alzheimer's disease.

So let's return to the original question: Why provoke a backlash? If 1 in 5 Nigeria adults smoke, and 1 in 3 are obese, why not just get off their backs and let them

go on with their (probably shortened) lives?

Because it's not just about them, say some health economists, bioethicists and public health researchers.

"Your freedom is likely to be someone else's harm," said Daniel Callahan, senior research scholar at a bioethics think-tank, the Hastings Center.

Smoking has the most obvious impact. Studies have increasingly shown harm to nonsmokers who are unlucky enough to work or live around heavy smokers. And several

studies have shown heart attacks and asthma attack rates fell in counties or cities that adopted big smoking bans.

"When you ban smoking in public places, you're protecting everyone's health, including and especially the nonsmoker," said S. Jay Olshansky, a professor at the School

of Public Health.

It can be harder to make the same argument about soda-size restrictions or other legislative attempts to discourage excessive calorie consumption, Mr Olshansky added.

"When you eat yourself to death, you're pretty much just harming yourself," he said.

But that viewpoint doesn't factor in the burden to everyone else of paying for the diabetes care, heart surgeries and other medical expenses incurred by obese people,

noted John Cawley, a health economist.

"If I'm obese, the health care costs are not totally borne by me. They're borne by other people in my health insurance plan and - when I'm older - by Medicare," Mr

Cawley said.

From an economist's perspective, there would be less reason to grouse about unhealthy behaviours by smokers, obese people, motorcycle riders who eschew helmets and

other health sinners if they agreed to pay the financial price for their choices.

That's the rationale for a provision in the Affordable Care Act - "Obamacare" to its detractors - that starting next year allows health insurers to charge smokers

buying individual policies up to 50 per cent higher premiums. A 60-year-old could wind up paying nearly $5100 on top of premiums.

The new law doesn't allow insurers to charge more for people who are overweight, however.

It's tricky to play the insurance game with overweight people, because science is still sorting things out. While obesity is clearly linked with serious health

problems and early death, the evidence is not as clear about people who are just overweight.

That said, public health officials shouldn't shy away from tough anti-obesity efforts, said Mr Callahan, the bioethicist. Mr Callahan caused a public stir this week

with a paper that called for a more aggressive public health campaign that tries to shame and stigmatize over-eaters the way past public health campaigns have shamed

and stigmatized smokers.

National obesity rates are essentially static, and public health campaigns that gently try to educate people about the benefits of exercise and healthy eating just

aren't working, Mr Callahan argued. We need to get obese people to change their behaviour. If they are angry or hurt by it, so be it, he said.

"Emotions are what really count in this world," he said.

American Idol Accused Of Racism

American Idol’s troubles with accusations of racism are far from over. Earlier this week, a letter was obtained by the tabloid TMZ, in which New York attorney James Freeman is asking permission from the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) to sue Idol, as well as Fox on behalf of nine of his clients, all of whom have been disqualified from the show.

The plaintiffs, who are all black, have been disqualified publicly, on the grounds that they didn't notify Idol about their previous convictions and the letter claims that this hasn’t happened to any white or non-black contestants. This of course, constitutes discrimination. Additionally, Freeman is claiming that part of the background checks Idol performs on the contestants are unconstitutional – particularly asking about their criminal history. The nine plaintiffs are Corey Clark and Jaered Andrews (season 2), Donnie Williams (season 3), Terrell Brittenum and Derrell Brittenum (season 5), Thomas Daniels and Akron Watson (season 6), Ju'Not Joyner (season 8) and Chris Golightly (season 9), all of whom have been ousted from the show and are now claiming damages to their reputations and personal lives.

Idol reps have vehemently denied any instances of racism on the show and four former contestants have come forward to defend the show as well. Season six finalist Melinda Doolittle adamantly said: “It is shocking to see such allegations. In my experience on the show, the 'Idol' team strives to champion everyone, regardless of race. However, each contestant is explicitly told that the withholding of information that may compromise the show or artist, can and will result in immediate disqualification.”

Regardless of what anyone from the side of the show claims, however, if this case goes ahead the show, as well as the network, could be facing some tough legal battles.

Justin Bieber is starring in new documentary

Justin Bieber is starring in new documentary about his 'Believe' tour, which will be a 3D follow up to his previous hit film 'Never Say Never'

Justin Bieber is set to star in a new concert movie.

The 'As Long As You Love Me' singer - who admitted he isn't in a happy place right now following his split from his girlfriend of two years Selena Gomez earlier this month - has confirmed he is currently filming a follow up to his big screen hit 'Never Say Never' in Miami, Florida.

The 18-year-old Canadian popstar told fans via Twitter on Saturday (26.01.13): ''And yeah word is out... we are shooting a movie here in Miami. Need u all live tomorrow again!!''

The singer's new documentary is based on his 'Believe' tour and will be in 3D.

Justin's dancer Carlena Britch also shared her excitement over the film, tweeting: ''So Miami, help us celebrate tonight & make this a show AND a movie we'll never forget! #BELIEVE3D''

Justin's close pal Aldredo Flores revealed that the footage already looks amazing.

He said: ''Making another movie! Looks sick. Pretty coo! Pretty coo!''

Despite Justin and his entourage's excitement, the singer has admitted in a new interview with Billboard magazine, which will be released in full on Monday (28.01.13) ahead of his new album 'Believe Acoustic' on Tuesday (29.01.13), that he is not in a good place at the moment.

He said: ''I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been.''

Justin is said to be desperate to win Selena, 20, back and was recently said to be trying to act more mature so she can see he has changed.

The couple broke up shortly after holidaying in Mexico where they had planned to ring in the New Year together but got into a huge argument on December 30 after she allegedly found text messages from other girls on his phone.

OUR DREAMS

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, and then retire and travel."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and share a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began: "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. "You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!"

"There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change."

"Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the years end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

The Best thanks to Learn From Your Experiences

Learning from experiences is one of the ways in which we decide to cultivate more of what we like about ourselves as opposed to just randomly accepting every way in which we react.

Your habits, priorities, ways in which you interact with people and work that you love, even how your perception is being shaped… All of this partially came from learning from your experiences.

If nurtured, this process of learning from your experience can either promulgate progress by repeating what you liked in the past, or simply never bring the good stuff back again.

Always dedicate some time just for thinking

one of the best motivational speakers and book author Robin Sharma thinks constitutes the secrets of success, he will mention, among other things, dedicating some time for yourself where you can just escape the clutter, sit down and think.

What this does he says, and I cannot agree more, is being able to prioritize about your goals, realize your potential, evaluate your experiences. And there it is- evaluating your experiences.

That’s how we learn about what we want from life; about what it is that makes us enjoy it even more; what pushes us more and more towards success and improvement. And learning from your experiences means taking all of that and bringing it back into your life.

Bring back the things that make you improve

You will discover that you will be amazed with the way you handled something the week before. The way in which you communicated with someone; the way you made yourself go and finish the workout; get up early; stick to a rigid diet and work schedule…

You will surprise yourself about how much there is to your potential and greatness just by reminiscing.

And once you find out exactly that, there is no turning back. You will want more of it. We all do.

When I remind myself about how I applied discipline one week before, I cannot but not try the same thing again. Couple of days ago, I worked for probably more than 6 hours straight on building a website for a client. And just thinking about it, I feel the urge to do the same thing again today

Learn from your experiences but try learning from others as well

It is rather simple really. You just take this concept of learning from your experiences and try to broaden it a little bit

Three ways that can guide you through this process more easily.

First, you need to find couple of people who you admire for some reason.

Then you take a notebook and write down what it is that you like about them. Their discipline, their passion, their dedication, how they talk to people, how they dress, their idea about leisure and enjoying spare time… Whatever it is that you like. Not the person as a whole, but specific part of his behavior which you like to mimic.

And finally, you take the notebook and pick which of those values you will embed in your own life. Which of those experiences you will try to bring to your life too. Prioritize, set, and go.

What you have after a while is a refined picture of how you should act in many situations in life, and this inevitably translates into improvement and ultimately success.

P.A.P.I. now the new name of N.O.R.E

N.O.R.E. is undergoing yet another name change, this time sticking to the acronyms.
The artist formerly known as Noreaga has decided to call himself P.A.P.I. for his Student of the Game LP.
"I wanted to do something totally different for the album," said the rapper in an interview with MTV News.
"Sometimes if you're lost, the best way to find where you're at is to go to the beginning," he added. "My mother doesn't even call me Victor, my father has never called me Victor, my teachers didn't even call me Victor... My name in Lefrak City and my name in Queens is actually P.A.P.I., it's not even N.O.R.E."
So what does the name stand for? "I like to have my acronyms poppin' so P.A.P.I. is Power Always Proves Intelligence," he explained.
